AMD has shown a ray tracing trick that slashes memory and acceleration-structure costs while keeping hundreds of millions of animated triangles moving in real time.
AMD Fellow Holger Gruen demonstrated the technique using a terrain scene containing about 25,000 independently animated plants. At maximum level of detail, the vegetation represents roughly 2.8 billion triangles.

Geekbench creator John Poole informed MacRumors that he uncovered "internal inconsistencies" that lead him to believe that the M6 Pro result might not be legitimate. Fujitsu will start selling its Monaka processors, and servers packing them, in November. Intel chief executive Lip-Bu Tan warned that the memory shortage battering PCs and smartphones could get even worse in 2027.
Speaking at the AI Infrastructure Summit in Santa Clara on 15 September, Tan said the industry had underestimated how serious the memory bottleneck would become.
“Early last year, I said that ‘memory would become a bottleneck.’ Many people did not realise it back then, but as a result, I was right,” Tan said.
