Intel Moon Lake CPUs To Power Entry-Level Laptops With Just Four LPE “Darkmont” Cores Based on 18A, & A TDP Starting at 6 Watts

The Hot Take: Intel coming for ARM?

Intel is preparing a new entry-level laptop CPU lineup called Moon Lake, which will feature just four LPE cores on the 18A process node. Intel Aims Entry-Level Laptops With Moon Lake CPUs, Based on 18A Process Node Intel is planning to offer two brand new families for entry-level PCs; the first will be Wildcat Lake Refresh, which will feature slightly better configurations than existing Core Series 3 models, and then the company will launch an even more entry-tier lineup, called Moon Lake. Latest specifications of both families were shared by…

Leaked 256-core Zen 6c EPYC CPU destroys Zen 5 in early single-threaded benchmarks hints at 24% IPC gain

The Hot Take: Race to the ST champion on next architecture has begun.

AMD's Zen 6 processors are out! Well, the EPYC 9006 family of server CPUs is out, anyway. These aren't chips that mere mortals like you and I can reasonably acquire, so there aren't really many third-party benchmarks out there yet, but somebody ran GeekBench 7 on one, and you know what that means: time for some wild speculation, such as the supposed 15% single-threaded IPC increase you might have seen reported this week. However, it isn't quite that clear yet. Well-known enthusiast and occasional leaker HXL (@9550pro) spotted the EPYC 9996…

Arm claims twice AMD’s work per rack

The Hot Take: Doubling the CPUs in the rack yes will be better performance per watt, but is also stacking it against the competition. If you focus on CORE vs CORE, AMD and CISC/x86 still beats it in my eyes.

Arm claims its AGI CPU delivers nearly twice AMD’s EPYC Turin performance per rack, thanks to its higher server density. Research outfitĀ Signal65Ā tested early Arm systems against AMD’s Zen 5-based EPYC 9755 across seven workloads. Arm commissioned the study, and it seems reasonably pleased with its purchase. The headline result is an average of 1.99 times the modelled performance per rack, with individual results ranging from 1.43 to 3.19 times AMD’s performance. That distinction between measured processor results and modelled racks…

Intel Optimization Zone 1.2 Released With New Guides & Recommendations

The Hot Take: E/P-Core CPUs getting more optimizations from Intel. We'll have to see how AMD does when they start dropping Zen with a similar setup.

Earlier this year Intel announced the "Optimization Zone" as their new initiative to provide a centralized place to collect all their resources for maximizing performance and software tuning on Intel hardware platforms. They've continued building out more resources for the Intel Optimization Zone and yesterday released v1.2 with more tuning guides and best practices for optimal performance on Intel hardware...

Intel's next-gen Nova Lake platforms pass compliance at USB and PCIe standards bodies as launch looms

The Hot Take: Nice, when to we get em?

The USB Implementers Forum now lists some of Intel's Core Ultra 400-series 'Nova Lake' platforms in its Integrators List, meaning that the products have passed applicable USB compliance and interoperability tests. The PCI-SIG Integrators List also includes Intel’s 900-series chipsets for Nova Lake-S processors. Such tests are conducted ahead of product launches to ensure interoperability and to gain the right to use the PCIe and USB logos on new products.Go deeper with TH Premium: CPU(Image credit: Tom's Hardware)Intel VP Robert Hallock sets…

Intel Reshuffles Nova Lake-S Graphics Plans As Razor Lake-S Inherits The 12-Core Xe3P iGPU Instead

The Hot Take: Hopefully positioning it for better competition with AMD.

Intel has reportedly changed its plans for the 12 Xe3P iGPU for its desktop lineup, moving it from Nova Lake-S to Razor Lake-S. Intel Nova Lake-S Is No Longer Getting the 12 Xe3P iGPU Treatment, Plans Shift to Razor Lake-S The Intel Nova Lake-S family will be the first to feature the next-generation Xe3P GPU architecture, which is expected to deliver some solid gains over the existing Xe3 GPUs. The integrated graphics will be an integral part of the mobile lineup, but while earlier reports hinted that we would see 12 Xe3P iGPU cores on desktop…

Mysterious x86 CPU Already Has APX, x86S Where Intel Left Off For Legacy-Free x86

The Hot Take: Are we going to have a third player in the x86 market? Reminds me of the days Cyrix 686's back in the day if so. Would help push competition and Intel with an injection of licensing cash.

The mystery deepens around an x86 implementation from a corporate entity other than AMD and Intel and has been making some very intriguing changes for coming from a seeming start-up. Beyond 16 tile and 32 tile AMX implementations that already surpass Intel's current Advanced Matrix Extensions (AMX) capabilities in shipping Xeon CPUs, new disclosures were made today concerning Advanced Performance Extensions (APX), Flexible Return and Event Delivery (FRED), and even x86S as the effort that Intel previously stopped for cleaning up the x86…
